Sources and Friends, Forces and Trends
What began as a bibliography is now a list of sources and
friends here. You can also find some topical information on the art of recorded
sound. In no particular order, alphabetical, numerical, chronological,
importance or otherwise:
Steve Dee inventor of beat juggling,
an incredible live dj with a great sense of humor, performed at a US
Presidential inaugaration.
Collier, James Lincoln. The Making of Jazz
Shaw, Arnold. Black Popular Music in America. Arnold Shaw's book is an
incredible compilation of the immense contribution Black artists have made to
music in America. Clearly we would not have the level of artistry or
intelligence in American music without the contribution of Black musicians,
composers, artists, and inventors. Shaw's book will overwhelm you with the
depth of the breadth he has captured, a must have.
Freed, Alan.
George, Nelson. Hip Hop America. New York: Viking, 1998. Nelson George tracks
the art and artists surrounding 'the breaks' which eventually became Hip Hop.
This is *the* book on Hip Hop, George has been writing about the great Hip Hop
artists since they were first emerging and defining the art in New York. Really
a first hand account that explores the impact of Hip Hop and its influence on
the neighborhoods in New York and its spread to become a worlwide phenomenon
from a passionate writer who has been documenting the art and helped it earn
credibility.
Stancell, Steven. Rap Whoz Who
What can we say about Kool DJ Red
Alert, other than dedication? A man truly dedicated to helping young
artists emerge and always giving other people the light to shine. Really this
is what being a Hip Hop dj is all about, and Kool DJ Red Alert is a legend.
Emenheiser, Daniel A. Professional Discotheque Management.
Koenigsberg, Allen. To truly
understand the awe and amazement of early recorded sound, we highly recommend
visiting Allen Koenigsberg's site. He has many hard to find and unique books on
early phonograph history. His research and study of the patents for the
phonograph have ensured that the mechanical genius and dedication of early
inventors and artists would not be lost in time.
